About
Delivering for Students!
I'm running for my second term on the Hart District School Board. The last two years have been unlike any we could have imagined, and we have gotten through it together. Over the last 5 years, I have worked tirelessly to serve as an advocate for students, staff and schools.
Education is my passion! Why? Because I know first-hand how education can change a person’s life trajectory. Education inspires dreams, breaks negative cycles, and encourages innovation and creativity so that we can cope with the many challenges that we face as adults throughout life. I want to ensure that we provide all students with a great education. As a board member, I represent constituents who are often too young to vote for what they want, but their voice is so important to be heard. I am committed to advocating for the needs of all students. I believe it is important to listen to all our stakeholders—students, parents, teachers, staff and taxpayers—so that I can act to bring the best that we can offer to our students and the overall educational experience. As an educator and a parent, I have delivered for our students and families in this community through serving on the board.
Let my record stand—despite the challenges of COVID and the tragedy at Saugus High School, progress has absolutely been made and foundations have been laid for a positive future for our students and families—and I need to see it through for our students. We are a great District, providing a great education for students and I believe we can do “Moore”, especially for those students on the periphery. Access and equity are critical components to serving students. My focus on the Board has been and will be on supporting all of our education options, including career technical education, adult education, alternative education, student wellness, performing arts and engaging parents in decision-making.
Public school teachers are life changers. I know this because I have been one. During the pandemic, teachers, administrators and classified staff, gave above and beyond to make sure our students continued learning as we were forced to pivot from in-person to distance learning. Then when schools were able to open for in-person instruction during my tenure as board president, educators across the district in the class and outside the classroom faced unheard of challenges in our effort to keep schools safe and open.
I have served as an educator for nearly 30 years in five different school districts in a variety of positions from instructional assistant to teacher, and later as an administrator, including serving as a teacher and administrator within the William S. Hart Union High School District. I know how hard these last few years have been and I value the dedication and commitment of our staff. I am honored to get to work with them to deliver for our students and families!
These experiences give me a unique perspective to addressing issues and supporting my goal of being fiscally accountable and responsible to taxpayers. As we look toward the future of our schools, there is unfinished business to make sure Hart District students have the best education possible. It takes:
• Consistent
• Committed
• Collaborative
• Competent
• Compassionate
• Courageous
Leadership to lead during a global pandemic, and to put plans in place to face the ensuing impacts of the pandemic. It’s time to get beyond the pandemic and to ensure educational excellence and equity for all students.
I have lived in Santa Clarita since 2005. I am married to my amazing husband, Paul Charles, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, and have four wonderful children, two of whom attended school in the William S. Hart Union High School District and one who will attend school in this district in the future. I’m honored to have the support and endorsements of key educators and community leaders. Serving on the Board is challenging and demanding, but I am committed and ready to put my experience to work to keep delivering for our students.
With your vote on November 8th, we can ensure that there is “Moore” for the Hart Board. Together we can!
